Dear D2 Families,

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it many challenges, but it has also facilitated a great opportunity for the Spartanburg School District 2 Community to show why our district is such a very special place.

With incredible support and leadership from our Board of Trustees and countless hours of work by our teachers, principals, district office staff, and instructional teams, we have worked to refine our Return-2-Learn plans for the 2020-21 school year.

It is important for you to know that the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is always at the forefront of every decision. As you will see on our Return-2-Learn webpage, an extensive number of safety procedures and protocols are in place to create a safe environment in which to learn and work.

We know that our D2 Families have eagerly awaited the announcement of our return model in order to make plans for the start of the school year. We cannot thank our community enough for the patience, kindness, and support you have shown us throughout this process!

On August 17, and for the first 2 weeks of school, we plan for our elementary students to return to learn on a staggered start schedule. Beginning the week of August 31, elementary students will come to school 5 days a week on the Family Model. Parents of elementary students can use our Return-to-Learn Calendar as well as forthcoming information from their children’s respective schools to determine their daily schedules to begin the school year.

On August 17, we plan for our middle and high school students to return to learn on our A-B Hybrid Model. Students will attend face-to-face instruction two days per week and participate in Distance-Remote Learning (DRL) lessons three days per week. Each student will receive a letter designation (A = Mondays/Wednesdays or B = Tuesdays/Thursdays) for face-to-face instruction. Parents and students may use this information as well as the Return-to-Learn Calendar to determine their daily schedules to begin the school year.

As you review the plans on our website, please know that these decisions were made through a tremendous collaborative effort. Our plans were constructed with input from our community, teachers, administrators, faculty, staff, as well as health and state government officials. I extend my thanks to all who shared their valuable insights.

All of us in D2 are excited to get back to what we love most: and that is serving students and families! We are committed to making sure our return to school is as safe as possible and we ask for your continued commitment to this goal.

Together we will succeed in ensuring our community’s children receive the education they deserve!
