...provide the leverage for our students to develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina GraduateBe a Difference Maker in Spartanburg 2 which enable them to be college, career, and citizenship ready. The foundation of our vision for EXCEL-erating learning in Spartanburg 2 is based on the work of renowned educator John Hattie who synthesized 15 years of research and more than 800 meta-analyses of what works in the classroom. He was able to determine the teaching practices and conditions that have the greatest impact on student achievement. In this body of research, “collective teacher efficacy”, which we operationalize in the work of our Teaching and Learning Teams (TLTs) in every school, has the greatest impact on student achievement as teachers participate in weekly, focused, data-driven meetings using common formative and benchmark assessments.

Hattie’s work, as well as the action research of Dr. Michael Fullan and Dr. Mark Edwards informs our instructional focus of differentiating and personalizing learning using vetted digital tools and adaptive software coupled with sound pedagogy and practices such as guided instruction, RTI, and PBIS. In addition to our district essentials, schools also utilize other research-proven, innovative approaches such as International Baccalaureate (IB), Leader in Me, STEAM, and Project-Based Learning, among others.
