Introduction
To drive a school bus in Spartanburg School District 2 you must have a class B CDL license with a P&S endorsement. You must also possess a South Carolina School bus certificate.
You will be required to do the following:
- Attend and Complete the State School Bus Class
- Undergo a DOT physical
- Go to DMV, take and pass the computer test to receive your class B
permit
- Once you have your permit, you can begin your behind-the-wheel training. You are required to train for 10 hours with a certified trainer.
- After completing your 10 hours of training, you will be required to take a physical performance test to ensure you are capable of safely evacuating a bus in the event of an emergency or accident. You will also be tested on your driving skills.
- Next, you will begin training for your CDL test. The DMV tests consists of 3 parts: Pre-trip, Skills and the CDL road test. This is covered in sections 11.12 &13 of the commercial drivers manual.
- Once you have successfully passed all 3 tests, you will receive your CDL.
