Vaccination

All South Carolinians 12+ are eligible. Click here to find a vaccination location.

From DHEC:
“All COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and free. They reduce your risk of getting the virus, particularly in severe forms.”

“DHEC continues to strongly encourage everyone 12 and older to get vaccinated. The vaccines are safe and effective and prevent COVID-19. Make no mistake: COVID-19 continues to spread in our communities, and those who remain unvaccinated face far greater risk from the disease than rare side effects from the vaccines. If you get COVID-19, not only could you get severely ill and be hospitalized or even die, but you could infect those you love as well as others.”

Health Protocols 2021-2022

In Spartanburg School District Two we are excited about the start of the new school year and we look forward seeing all of our students. We are committed to making sure we have a safe and productive learning environment for our students, faculty and staff.

Below you will find some of the protocols we will use as part of our Committed 2 Learning plan for this school year. These protocols are founded on guidance from state and federal health organizations with consideration to exceptions and limitations based on South Carolina state law.

Masks and Face Coverings
Masks will be optional for both students and district employees. DHEC recommends the use of masks indoors in school settings with some specific exceptions.

South Carolina Proviso 1.108 which reads:
1.108. (SDE: Mask Mandate Prohibition): No school district, or any of its schools, may use any funds appropriated or authorized pursuant to this act to require that its students and/or employees wear a facemask at any of its education facilities. This prohibition extends to the announcement or enforcement of any such policy.

Physical Distancing
Physical distancing of six feet will be observed in schools and buildings, to the extent possible, as recommended in DHEC and CDC guidance.

Family Model – Middle and Elementary Schools
Elementary and Middle schools will implement a Family Model when possible. This is a cohort strategy that allows students to stay together throughout most of the school day.

Contact Tracing/Quarantine Guidelines
Our district nurse manager and school nurses will conduct contact tracing in schools and buildings, based on documented positive COVID tests. If a student is exposed to a COVID positive individual, and is considered a close contact, parents or caregiver will be notified.

Students and staff members determined to be close contacts of COVID positive individuals will be quarantined. While the district is not permitted by law to ask about vaccination status, according to DHEC guidelines those who voluntarily provide proof of vaccination and are not symptomatic, can return to school.

SC DHEC defines a close contact as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more, within 24-hours. If both the Covid-19 positive student and the close contact were both wearing a mask, the close contact would not have to quarantine, unless they were closer than 3 feet. Visitors
Visitors will be asked to refrain from going past the front office unless deemed necessary at the discretion of the principal. The mask ordinance does not extend to visitors, so visitors are encouraged to wear a mask if going past the front office.

Promotion of Proper Hand Hygiene, Respiratory Etiquette
We will continue promote proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette at every opportunity. Hand sanitizer will be readily available at multiple points in all schools.

Cleaning Protocols
Deep cleaning and disinfecting are required daily in all schools and on buses. We will have wipes and cleaning supplies available for use at all times.

Staying Home If You are Sick
As always, we ask staff and students to stay home if you are sick.

Automatic Exclusions from School
Any student or staff with any of the following symptoms are subject to exclusion for 10 days unless they present a negative COVID Test:
o Loss of taste or smell
o Shortness of breath
o New or worsening cough

Reporting Test Results to Schools
We will not be accepting results from home test kits. Test results reported to schools must contain the name and birthday of the person tested as well as the name or signature of the healthcare professional who performed or ordered the test.

This is not an all-inclusive list of protocols
