Medical Homebound Overview
Medical Homebound Instruction is available to students—both with and without disabilities—who are unable to attend school due to a medical condition. This includes physical or mental health conditions resulting from an illness, injury, or pregnancy, even when transportation is provided by the district.
The purpose of Medical Homebound Instruction is to ensure continuity of learning and support the student’s transition back to the regular classroom environment as soon as medically appropriate. These services are governed by State Board of Education Regulation 43-241.
To initiate homebound services, specific procedures and documentation are required. Please review both the Medical Homebound Guidelines and the Parent Expectations Form carefully.
After signing the Parent Expectations Form, contact your student’s School Homebound Coordinator—typically the school counselor—to discuss the next steps and obtain the Medical Homebound Physician Form for your child’s healthcare provider to complete.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Office of Special Services at 864-578-0128.
